Student Recognized for Leadership in Community Service
Ohio University junior Meghan Gilkey is one of three Ohio students
selected for the Ohio Campus Compact 1999 Charles J. Ping Student
Community Service Award. A hearing
and speech sciences major from Chagrin Falls, Gilkey is Circle K
president and Alpha Phi Omega vice president for service.
Named for Charles J. Ping, president emeritus of Ohio University,
the award is given annually and is designed to recognize and honor
undergraduate students' outstanding leadership and contributions to
their campus and community. Candidates are nominated by the president
of their college or university and are expected to meet community
support and service criteria.

- COM 2K: Communication for the New Millennium is the
theme of this year's Communication
Week. It begins April 25 with the opening of the School of
Visual Communication juried student art show at 7 p.m. in Baker
Center Ballroom, and runs through April 30. A complete listing of

- There will be a demonstration of hazardous materials
decontamination procedures on April 24 from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. between Grover Hall and Bird Arena. The mock drill is being
conducted as part of an industrial hygiene class.
- Free breast and cervical cancer screenings will be
offered May 4 from 1-4 p.m. at the Athens County Department of
Human Services office in Chauncey. The screenings are made
possible by the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine's
mobile health unit. Call 740-593-2432 or 1-800-844-2654 to
schedule an appointment.
- Free childhood immunizations will be offered by the
mobile health unit of the Ohio
University College of Osteopathic Medicine according to the
following schedule: April 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mac-N-Bec's
in Albany. Free immunizations also will be provided at area
kindergarten registrations as follows: The Plains, April 26 from 8
a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and in Coolville on April 28 from 9 a.m. to 3
