CNN's
Leon Harris Will Speak at Commencement June 12
Leon
Harris, co-anchor of CNN's "Early Edition," will be the keynote
speaker at Ohio University's two undergraduate commencement
ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. June 12 in the Convocation
Center.
A 1983 graduate of Ohio University, Harris has twice won the Best
Newscaster Award at the Annual CableAce Awards ceremonies. Before his
early morning newscast assignment, Harris was co-anchor of "Prime
News" and "The World Today" weekday evenings with Joie Chen.
Harris has covered major breaking news stories such as the
Oklahoma City bombing in April 1995, the manhunt for fashion designer
Gianni Versace's alleged murderer Andrew Cunanan in July 1997, and
the Los Angeles riots.
As in past years, the morning commencement will include the
colleges of business,
communication, fine
arts and health
and human services. The afternoon commencement will include the
Honors
Tutorial College, University
College, and the colleges of arts
and sciences, education
and engineering and
technology.

- Keynote speaker, Dr. Danny Wallace will speak on the
OhioLEARN Infrastructure Project today from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at
Alden Library 318. Dr. Wallace is the Dean of the School of
Library Information Science at Kent State University. The event is
part of National Library Week.
- Two lectures will be presented by Indiana University's
Professor of Religious Studies David Haberman on Ohio University's
Athens campus. Haberman will lecture on "Yamuna: Religious
Goddess, Polluted River" at 7 p.m., April 15 in Anderson
Auditorium of Scripps Hall and on "Religious Studies at the End of
the Twentieth Century" at 4 p.m., April 16 in Room 214 of the RTVC
Building. Both lectures are free and open to the public.
- Free childhood immunizations will be offered by the
mobile health unit of the Ohio
University College of Osteopathic Medicine according to the
following schedule: tomorrow from 3 to 5 p.m. at McDonald's on
East State Street in Athens; April 20, from 3 to 5 p.m., Ramada
Inn in Nelsonville; and April 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.,
Mac-N-Bec's in Albany. Free immunizations also will be provided at
area kindergarten registrations as follows: Athens East
Elementary, Nelsonville-York, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
Morrison, April 19, 8 to 11 a.m.; Chauncey, April 19, from 12:45
to 5 p.m.; Trimble, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; The Plains,
April 26, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and Coolville, April 28, from
