Today's Events:

  • The Outstanding Civil Service Employee Awards ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. in Baker Center's 1804 room.

  • Free Hearing and Speech Screening Tests from 1-4 p.m. at the Hearing and Speech Clinic in Lindley Hall. Open to the public; no appointment needed. Call 593-1404 for more information. Other dates.

  • "Africa: Why Are Her Children at Risk?" Teach-In The Institute for the African Child invites everyone to participate in a teach-in entitled "Africa: Why are her Children at risk?" Events are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 4-5. Read more about it.

  • Swimming and Diving meet at 4 p.m. at the Aquatic Center. The Bobcats take on Oakland University. Both the men's and women's teams will be in the water. Free and open to the public. Also Saturday at 1 p.m.

Internet Symposium to be Held Feb. 18-19 in Scripps Hall

"Living in an Internet Society," an informal symposium to discuss the impact of online media on private life and education, will be held at Ohio University's Scripps Hall Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18 and 19. Keynote speaker Douglas S. Robertson, author of "The New Renaissance: Computers and the Next Level of Civilization," will speak at 7 p.m. Friday in Anderson Auditorium.

Saturday's schedule includes three sessions focused on lifestyle issues and the Internet, and two sessions on educational issues.

"The symposium is not for technology enthusiasts, although they are welcome," said Professor of Journalism Patricia Westfall, organizer of the event.

The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration by Feb. 11 is required. Registration forms are available at the reference desk in Alden library or at the symposium's web site www.ohiou.edu/lisconf/
