ABLE Resource Center Director Chosen to
Represent State at National Literacy
Summit
Rick
McIntosh, Director of the ABLE (Adult
Basic Literacy Education) Resource Center
has been chosen to represent the state of
Ohio at the National Literacy Summit being
held February 14-15 in Washington, DC. The
ABLE Resource Center is located in and
supported by the Ohio University College
of Education.
The
National Literacy Summit is being
sponsored by the National Institute for
Literacy, the National Center for the
Study of Adult Learning and Literacy, the
Division of Adult Education and
Literacy/U.S. Department of Education, the
National Coalition for Literacy and the
Consortium of State Directors of Adult
Education.
The
primary goal of the National Literacy
Summit is to develop a future-oriented
vision for literacy services in the United
States that is ambitious, yet achievable.
The need for the National Literacy Summit
stemmed from the National Adult Literacy
Survey (NALS) that found that over 40
million adult Americans lack the literacy
skills necessary to succeed at work, at
home and in the community.
