five-game home schedule concludes with defending MAC
champion Marshall
ATHENS,
Ohio -- Ohio University announced its 2000 football schedule
February 7 in conjunction with the release of the
Mid-American Conference football schedule.
This
season's slate opens with three-straight non-conference
games, including trips to Iowa State and Minnesota in the
first two weeks. The Golden Gophers opened 1999 with a win
over the Bobcats before finishing ranked 18th in the AP poll
with a win in the Sun Bowl. Ohio opens action at Peden
Stadium with Tennessee Tech before opening Mid-American
Conference action against Akron.
Ohio's
conference schedule features all of the East Division
opponents along with Central Michigan and Western Michigan
from the West Division. MAC schools visiting Peden Stadium
will be Akron, Buffalo, Central Michigan and defending MAC
champion Marshall. The Bobcats will travel to 1999 West
Division winner Western Michigan as well as Kent, Miami and
Bowling Green.
Head Coach
Jim Grobe enters his sixth season at the Bobcat helm. He
guided the 1999 squad to its fourth-straight winning MAC
season. It marks the first time in over 30 years that Ohio
recorded winning MAC seasons in four consecutive years. His
26 victories ranks fifth on Ohio's coaching victories chart.
Ohio opens
spring football practice on Wednesday, Feb. 16. Practice
will conclude with a spring game on Saturday, March 11.
