ATHENS,
Ohio -- Six Ohio University employees have been named
winners of the 1999 Outstanding Employee Awards.
The award
recipients are J. Wesley Clark, police officer, Division of
Campus Safety; John Dillon II, zone maintenance specialist,
Facilities Management; Kelley M. Jolley, senior secretary,
College of Engineering and Technology; Ruth A. Russell,
cook, Food Service; Carolyn S. Sinclair, employee benefits
specialist, University Human Resources; Philip A. Wilson,
communication network specialist, Zanesville campus.
Ohio
University President Robert Glidden presented each recipient
with a $500 check and a framed certificate at an awards
ceremony Friday in the 1804 Room of Baker Center.
"I am very
proud of the total work force at Ohio University," Glidden
said. "I think we have an extraordinary group who really
care about the institution. To be selected from among many
outstanding people is very special."
- As a
police officer for Ohio University, J. Wesley Clark is
described as an accomplished and exhaustive investigator.
Clark has been responsible for the clearance of several
cases and bridges the gap between students and the
police. He was selected Officer of the Year in 1997 and
received the first Police Officer of the Year Award from
Student Senate. Clark has coordinated the Law Enforcement
Torch Run and Bikes for Kids and is very involved in
Special Olympics.
- John
Dillon II has demonstrated exceptional carpentry skills
and excellent finishing work in his work at Copeland Hall
and the Computer Services Center. He is described as
being very knowledgeable, dependable, resourceful and
committed to the university. Dillon has worked as a union
steward and is described as an excellent advocate for the
union.
- Kelley
Jolley has demonstrated dedication and excellent service
to Ohio University and is described as extremely
energetic, capable and is always available to assist
faculty, staff and students. Her supervisors commend her
for her excellent computer skills and credit her for
making the office extremely efficient in the way it
serves students, employers, faculty, parents and
co-workers. She manages the career resource center for
every student and spends time with each one to answer
their questions and give them encouragement.
- As a
cook in the Shively Dining Hall, Ruth Russell has
demonstrated dedication and excellent service to Ohio
University. Her supervisors commend her for her years of
excellent attendance. She is considered a leader in
attitude and organizational skills. She is described as
friendly, conscientious and tireless in the performance
of her duties. She is described as having great rapport
with the students and staff in Shively.
- Carolyn
Sinclair has demonstrated outstanding and dedicated
service to Ohio University through her work at Human
Services. Her high ethical standards, excellent
communication skills and strong interpersonal skills make
her a valuable asset to the university community.
Described as courteous, conscientious, cooperative and
caring, she is always available to help and goes above
and beyond to assist employees with their benefits
needs.
- Phillip
Wilson has demonstrated exceptional service,
dependability and commitment to Ohio University in his 23
years of work for the university. Wilson started as a
custodial worker and advanced to the grounds crew, where
he grew flowers for the Zanesville Campus and Muskingum
Area Technical College, saving money for both
institutions. Wilson's initiative and communication
skills have earned him high respect from the campus
community.
University
Human Resources sponsors the annual awards, which have
recognized distinguished service by campus employees for 14
years. Eligible employees are nominated by any faculty,
staff member or student and must be full- or part-time
permanent civil service or bargaining unit employees with a
minimum of five consecutive years of service.
The
selection committee includes classified staff,
administrators and faculty from the Athens and regional
campuses.
