OHIO WOMEN
SCORE BIG 94-69 WIN OVER MARSHALL
ATHENS,
Ohio -- The Ohio University women's basketball team defeated
Marshall on Monday night, 94-69, at Athens. The Bobcats
raced to an 11-0 lead on their way to a 40-26 halftime
advantage and never looked back. Ohio used a balanced attack
to post the win, as five players reached double figures led
by Lisa Hindenlang's (Pickerington/Pickerington HS)
career-high 22 points. Jacquie Negrelli (Euclid/VA-St.
Joseph's HS) scored 15 points and Heather Laughlin
(Dover/Dover HS) had 14 points, six assists and six rebounds
to pace the attack.
"We played
well tonight because we played as a team," said Ohio head
coach Lynn Bria. "With only nine players, we need a balanced
attack and everyone playing together to be a good team. I
thought everyone contributed and it was a good win."
Ohio
increased its 14-point halftime lead to 20 points within the
first three minutes of the second half and coasted to
victory. The Bobcats enjoyed their biggest lead of 32 points
at the 11:30 mark of the second half after a Moorman free
throw made it 69-37.
Marshall
has now lost nine of its last 10 games and shot just 38
percent from the field. Ohio shot a stellar 51 percent from
the floor (32-62) and made 87 percent (27-31) of its free
throws. Ohio also won the battle of the boards,
39-33.
The loss
was Marshall's second biggest of the season and its biggest
in the Mid-American Conference since a 26-point loss to Kent
last February. MU's only loss by more points this season was
a 30-point deficit, 91-61, to No. 15 Arizona in
December.
Ohio
improved to 8-11 and 3-5 in the MAC while Marshall fell to
6-14, 0-9. Ohio plays at Akron on Thursday at 7 p.m., and
hosts Buffalo on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m.
