ATHENS,
Ohio -- Ohio University President Robert Glidden signed an
agreement Monday, January 10, to create a student and
faculty exchange program with a Brazilian institution of
higher learning, Fundacao Getulio Vargas.
"There
will be student and faculty exchanges and collaborative
efforts in teaching, research and consulting, " said
Associate Provost for International Programs Josep Rota.
"Fundacao Getulio Vargas is widely regarded as Brazil's
premier institution of higher education in business,
economics and the social sciences. This opens an excellent
opportunity for Ohio University to strengthen its Latin
American programs. Trade is growing by leaps and bounds and
the more Brazilians learn about the United States the better
the opportunities are for trade."
Prior to
the Cutler Hall signing, Ohio University and FGV had an
informal agreement that brought groups of Brazilian
professionals and executives to the College of Business for
an orientation on U.S. business and culture, Rota said.
The
agreement also calls for both universities to pursue
collaborative distance learning opportunities and for Ohio
University's Center for International Studies to offer
tuition scholarships to graduates of FGV pursuing master's
degrees in International Affairs.
