College Of Education Agreement with Athens City Schools

'Millionaire' Owes Popularity to Ease, Interactivity

Today's Events:

  • Yvonne L. Gray will discuss "The Importance of Community Leadership" this evening at 6:30 p.m. in Irvine 194. Ms. Gray is Vice President and C.E.O. of the United Way and Community Chest of Cincinnati.

  • The Ceramics Department Annual Pottery Sale continues through Friday. Various ceramic items will be available for your purchase from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Lobby of Seigfred Hall.

  • "Angels In America" will be performed at 8 p.m. in Baker Theater through November 6. Part of the School of Theater's 1999-2000 season.

  • Leaves from the Cradle, an exhibit of manuscript and printed leaves (pages) from the recently received Farfel Collection will be on display through December 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 5th floor of Alden Library. The items exhibited include manuscript leaves from East Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

Fales Receives Loehr Professorship in College of Engineering

Ohio University Professor of Industrial Technology James F. Fales has been appointed to the Gerald G. Loehr Professorship. Chosen from the faculty in the College of Engineering and Technology by the dean, each candidate must demonstrate a solid contribution in leadership and scholastics to the university. The Loehr professorship is a five-year appointment which receives a salary supplement and an additional travel budget.

Fales is the director of the Center of Automatic Identification which is devoted to research and education on subjects such as bar coding, magnetic stripe, voice recognition and radio frequency identification.

Fales is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences and has written articles in journals such as "Industrial Engineering," "Electronic Commerce World," "Automatic ID News," and "ID systems." In 1998, Fales received the Don Percival Award, the industry's highest honor presented annually to a person in the Automatic Identification and Data Capture community. He is one of only 16 people in the world to win this award.
