Lee Receives 1999 Hall of Fame
Librarian Award
The
Ohio Library Council recently awarded
former Dean of Ohio University Libraries
Hwa-Wei Lee with the 1999 Hall of Fame
Librarian Award.
Lee
has been an active participant in the Ohio
Valley Area Libraries regional system, has
served as an Ohio Library Association
board member, and was recognized in 1987
as Ohio Librarian of the Year.
Since
Lee began working at Vernon R. Alden
Library in 1978, print volumes have more
than doubled from 1 million to more than 2
million. As a member of the ARL, Alden is
ranked 75th in the nation out of 122
designated research libraries of which 111
are university libraries. The library's
Southeast Asia Collection is ranked as one
of the best in the world. Under Lee's
guidance, the library has provided
services to people of the region through
collaboration with public and school
libraries. Alden has been recognized as
the only academic library in the state to
function as a reference and interlibrary
loan resource for public libraries.
Lee
retired from Ohio University in
September.
