Faculty, Staff and Students in Academic and Administrative
buildings on the Athens Campus
It has
taken a few years but all of the academic and administrative
buildings on campus have had recycling containers put in
place. This is an important step in diverting waste away
from disposal toward recovery through recycling. OU disposes
of almost 1900 tons of waste a year. It recycles almost the
same amount of recyclables. Much of these recyclables are
from your building operations.
There are
a lot of people across the campus that have really helped to
enable OU to reach this rate of success. The custodial staff
who collect and take the materials out of the buildings and
all of the people in campus buildings who properly use the
recycling containers have put OU on the map in yet another
significant way, good stewards of resources.
The week
of November 29, the Campus Recycling Dept. started going
back through all of the buildings that have been outfitted
with recycling bins. We will replace the older recycling
bins in work areas with new ones or cleaned up ones. This
process will continue throughout the break.
Each one
will have an informational label on how to use the bin -- in
other words a list of what materials go in it. Campus
Recycling's web page address and phone number is also on the
label. This will also delineate this bin from the trash
bin.
We hope to
identify any problems and resolve them and plan on
distributing additional information on services available.
This is also a good opportunity to identify areas in the
buildings that need cleanouts. There tends to be an
accumulation of outdated furniture, equipment, files, and
other items that we can assist in removing. Once these areas
are identified we will schedule them for being cleared
out.
We
anticipate that once finished that this new recycling system
will aid everyone in diverting even more recyclables and
reusables from our operations and generated less actual
waste then ever. It will enhance an already successful
system even more with minimal to no disruption of day to day
campus operations.
Campus
Recycling thanks everyone for their good work.
