NIH Awards $1.4 Million to Ohio University
for Research Building
Ohio
University has received a $1.4 million
grant from the National Institutes of
Health to support the construction of a
new biochemistry and biomedical research
facility. The new building, which will
cost a total of $5.6 million, will be
located on West State Street in Athens and
will house
state-of-the-art laboratories for research
in life sciences.
This
multidisciplinary grant involved the work
of faculty and staff in the
College
of Arts and
Sciences,
the College
of Osteopathic
Medicine,
the Office of University Facilities
Planning
and the Office of the Vice
President for
Research.
Projects
undertaken in the new facility will
include studies of the effectiveness of
drugs prescribed for hypertension, efforts
to develop new types of antibiotics and a
project to decipher the genetic structure
of plants.
Construction
of the facility is set to begin early next
year.
