Ohio University's External Funding Hits
$35.2 Million
Ohio
University received $35.2 million from
external funding sources during fiscal
year 1998-1999, reflecting an increase in
support from industry, the private sector
and state and local government.
External
funding comes from federal and state
agencies and the private sector for
research and other sponsored activities on
campus. During fiscal 1999, funding from
businesses rose by 19 percent and state
and local support increased by 16 percent.
Private support for research and other
sponsored activities grew by 7
percent.
The
university received $16.5 million in
external funds for research activities 60
percent of which came from federal sources
such as the Federal Aviation
Administration, the National Institutes of
Health and the Department of
Defense.
The
number of funding awards received by
faculty, students, and staff increased
from 486 awards in fiscal year 1998 to 570
awards in 1999 up 17 percent. This
increase is part of a trend at Ohio
University that has seen the level of
external funding increase significantly
over the last decade,rising 51 percent
since fiscal year 1989, said Vice
President for Research John Bantle.
