Alden Library Changes Beverage Policy

The "No Food, No Drink" rule at Alden Library on the Athens campus of Ohio University is about to change. The University Libraries relaxed the "No drink" policy to permit bottled water and other drinks in sturdy resealing containers in Alden on January 3. The "no food" policy of the library remains unchanged.

Spilled drinks can do permanent damage to books and other library materials and for that reason, the library will only permit substantial drink containers that can be tightly closed. Paper cups and cartons, Styrofoam cups, plastic mugs with sip holes that don't close, and soda cans will continue to be prohibited.

Even the newly "legal" drink containers are required to stay sealed except when someone takes that refreshing sip. Library users may not leave drinks open on study tables or carrels within Alden.
