January 1 and All's Well: Ohio University
is A-OK for Y2K
For
more than two years, various Ohio
University offices and departments have
been performing tests and simulations of
the calendar rolling over to the year
2000. All of the major systems were tested
and passed their tests, but we still had
to wait for the real thing to be certain
that no problems would sneak up on us.
Well,
Y2K is officially here and the university
is up and running exactly as it should.
The power and water are on, the
university's administrative and climate
control computer systems are working, and
we're now gearing up for the beginning of
winter quarter on January 4. Facilities
Management reports no problems with the
central climate control system, and spot
checks on campus buildings found no
problems. Computer Services reports that
all mainframe computers handled the
rollover to 2000 without a problem and all
primary administrative computer software
programs (i.e. payroll, the Student
Information System, CUFS) are working
perfectly. Testing will go on today for
TRIPS and other software programs -- watch
this space tomorrow morning for an
update.
Students,
the residence halls are scheduled to open
tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. (but the dining
halls will be closed until breakfast on
Monday, January 3).
Please
travel safely, and we'll see you
soon.
