UNIVERSITY NAMES GITANJALI KAUL ASSOCIATE PROVOST FOR
ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT AND INSTITUTIONAL

ATHENS, Ohio -- Gitanjali Kaul, director of the Office of
Institutional Research at the University of Alaska,
Anchorage, has been appointed associate provost for academic
assessment and institutional research at Ohio University. In
this newly-created position, Kaul will report directly to
Provost Sharon Brehm and will oversee the assessment of
quality and effectiveness of academic programs and the
infrastructure to support the assessment process.
"The new
position was needed in order to strengthen the effectiveness
and efficiency of the academic assessment process in the
university," Brehm said. "Dr. Kaul brings a wealth of
experience to this position, superb technical skills and a
demonstrated ability to communicate well with diverse
constituencies. She will be an excellent associate provost
for assessment and institutional research and will make a
major contribution to the ongoing effort to enhance the
effectiveness of academic assessment at Ohio University."
At the
University of Alaska, Kaul is responsible for research
programs supporting academic planning and policy
formulation, budgeting and student tracking and outcomes.
She previously served as research associate for the
Statewide Office of Institutional Research at the University
of Alaska System of Higher Education.
"I am
looking forward to promoting the quality of teaching and
learning at Ohio by working with the faculty," Kaul said.
"Assessment works best when it is connected to the issues or
questions that the university community cares about, and I'm
hoping to involve all parties in the process of continuous
improvement."
Kaul
completed a bachelor's degree in psychology at the
University of Delhi in New Delhi, India, a master's degree
in psychology at Utkal University in Orissa, India, a
master's degree in sociology at Northern Illinois University
in DeKalb, Ill., and a doctorate degree in educational
psychology at Northern Illinois University in 1990.
