UNIVERSITY CONSOLIDATES ALUMNI RELATIONS AND DEVELOPMENT,
COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING DIVISIONS
ATHENS,
Ohio -- Ohio University's divisions of Alumni
Relations
and Development,
and Communications
and Marketing
have been consolidated into a new division of University
Advancement, President
Robert Glidden announced today (Monday, September 13).
The
reorganization mirrors effective university models across
the country and better positions the institution to build
support for its mission of teaching, service and research,
Glidden said.
"This
reorganization promises tremendous potential for Ohio
University," Glidden said. "As we move forward in our
efforts to secure visibility and recognition for our
outstanding programs, faculty and students, we can
anticipate heightened coordination and consistency in taking
our message to important audiences and constituencies.
Furthermore, this will increase our efficiency because it
eliminates one vice president position."
The new
division combines the university's Development, Alumni,
News
Services and Periodicals,
Media
Productions
and Publications
to form one organization under Vice President Leonard Raley.
"Leonard's
background, which includes supervision of a unit of this
scope, qualifies him uniquely during this transition and,
more importantly, to build this new division into a
tremendously effective organization working to share the
Ohio University story," Glidden said.
Raley has
guided the Division of Alumni Relations and Development for
two years after successfully merging the alumni relations
and development units in 1997.
"Much of
my career has been spent in an environment with combined
communications and development-alumni activities," Raley
said. "From my past experience, I believe this is the most
effective method to galvanize appreciation, visibility and
support for our educational mission."
As part of
the reorganization, the Printing
Resources Center,
the university's printing and duplication office, will be
overseen by Vice
President for
Administration
Gary North, who currently directs similar services such as
Facilities
Management
and Housing.
"As we
approach the university's bicentennial, we have a wonderful
story and tradition to share with Ohio, the nation and the
world," Glidden said. "I am excited about the potential for
this reorganization to build understanding of Ohio
University and its impact on young people and our society."
Vice
President of Communications and Marketing Adrie Nab
announced his retirement this summer.
