BRINGS BOBCATS TO COLUMBUS
COLUMBUS,
Ohio -- WSMZ-FM and the Ohio
Sports Network
(OSN) have reached agreement on a contract that will bring
Ohio University Athletics
to Bobcat fans across greater Columbus. In becoming the
newest affiliate of the OSN, Z103 will carry the
play-by-play broadcast of all Ohio football
and men's basketball
games in the 1999-2000 season.
"We are
absolutely thrilled to add WSMZ to our ever-growing list of
affiliates, said Derek Scott, director of broadcasting for
Ohio Athletics. "Our largest assemblage of alumni is in
Columbus and Franklin County, over ten-thousand strong. That
makes it vastly important for the Ohio Sports Network to be
available on a great radio station in that market."
"Affiliation
with the Ohio Sports Network allows Z103 to continue growing
its identity and its listenership," said WSMZ General Sales
Manager Brent Casagrande. "Adding the Bobcats to our sports
lineup, which already includes Columbus Clippers baseball,
gives WSMZ a consistent presence with sports fans
year-round."
The
addition of WSMZ brings the OSN affiliate total to 15 radio
stations in Ohio and West Virginia, including WERE-AM in
Cleveland. The broadcast arm of the Ohio Athletics
Department was founded in 1994. It has grown to include a
television network with affiliates in the markets of
Columbus, Cleveland/Akron, Cincinnati, Dayton and flagship
WOWK-TV which covers southeast Ohio as well as
Huntington/Charleston, West Virginia.
WSMZ is
located at 103.1 on the FM dial. It features an urban music
format of "Solid Gold Soul," with nationally-known morning
show host Tom Joyner anchoring the lineup of station
personalities.
