The African Diaspora in the Americas: Current Research
(April 11-12, 2003)
The symposium is being organized by the Department of African American Studies in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Fine Arts, the College of Health and Human Services, the departments of History, Modern Languages, Linguistics, and the Latin American Studies program. The symposium is part of an initiative to encourage the interdisciplinary exploration of the Global Africa, especially the African Diaspora in the Americas at Ohio University.

The symposium aims to provide an opportunity for the Ohio University community to develop an appreciation of the state of research on the African Diaspora in the Americas; create an environment and context for collaborative and interdisciplinary research between faculty and students; and provide a forum for faculty and students to engage in dialogue with peers from other institutions.

The Call of Abstracts has attracted proposals from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The symposium features plenary sessions and panels exploring literature, history, music, dance, religion, and politics. In addition there will be dance and other performance workshops.

What follows is a partial list of the presenters, a preliminary schedule, and information about registration and hotel accommodation.
