Community and Campus Day 2004
The Department of African American Studies and the Multicultural Genealogical Center, Chesterhill, OH,( http://www.mgcenter.org/ ) announces Community and Campus Day 2004 scheduled for May 22, 2004, in the New Lecture Hall Facility. This year, Community and Campus Day is an official bicentennial event and will be one of the major events being organized for Black Alumni Reunion (May 21–23, 2004). Our theme is “Bicentennial Memories.”

As was done at the past two Community and Campus Days, the goal is to celebrate and share the rich history of the African American experience in the Ohio River Valley. Last year there were more than 80 displays of art and artifacts from the community. Several units from the university used the event to showcase their programs, develop relationships with the community, and encourage recruitment. For example, the Department of Social Work was able to establish an internship and community development project with the Multicultural Genealogical Center.

DISPLAYS
We encourage you to consider participating in Community and Campus Day 2004. Specifically, we are asking you organize a display that:

Identifies and celebrates black alumni; andProvides information on any initiative your unit may be planning for the future that will impact African Americans and other communities in the Ohio River Valley.

We look forward to your participation. To facilitate smooth planning and the provision of adequate space for your display, we are requesting that you complete an Exhibitor Reservation Form.

The deadline for submitting the form is March 10, 2004.

PERFORMANCES
Performances have been a popular aspect of Community and Campus Day. We request your help in bringing this opportunity to the attention of faculty, staff, and students. Individuals and groups interested in performing during the event are asked to complete the Performer Reservation Form, which is available here

The deadline for submitting the form is March 10, 2004.

For the past two years the event has provided the campus and the community with opportunities to develop mutually beneficial collaborations through internships, co-productions, and other forms of cooperation. We encourage your participation in Community and Campus Day 2004.
