The Russ College of Engineering and Technology

In addition to offering a wide range of engineering and technology degrees, the Russ College of Engineering and Technology also houses two centers that work towards improving environmental quality: the Center for Air Quality and the Ohio Coal Research Center.

The Center for Air Quality collaborates with other Universities, private consulting firms and industries in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Texas, Illinois and Pennsylvania to address air quality issues affecting the Midwest region.

The Ohio Coal Research Center is involved in air pollution monitoring, watershed restoration efforts, economic development and promoting the health of the environment.  Their main focus is to maintain the nation’s fuel diversity with the production of environmentally safe and reliable electric power.  In order to do so, the center creates new technologies for the clean use of coal in existing power plants, and develops more efficient ways to convert coal to electricity, liquid fuels, and biofuels.  In addition to its work at Ohio University, the center is also the leader of Ohio’s Coal Research Consortium and part of Ohio U’s CE3.

The Ohio Coal Research Center and the Center for Air Quality merged to form the Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment (ISEE) in order to encourage interdisciplinary work.

Consortium for Energy, Economics and the Envrionment (CE3)

The Consortium for Energy, Economics and the Environment (CE3) was formed at Ohio University in 2005 to facilitate innovative applied research related to increasing Ohio’s investment in energy, the environment and our economic future. Visit their website for information about air pollution-reduction technology, and clean coal research.
