- This policy outlines the requirements for eligibility for the employee benefits package available to administrative contract appointees at Ohio University. For purposes of this policy, the following classifications of administrative appointments shall be used:
Full time administrators on presidential contract for not less than 40 hours per week, with an employment period of nine, ten, eleven, or twelve months.
Part-time administrators on presidential contract for less than 40 hours per week, with an employment period of nine, ten, eleven, or twelve months.
Part-time administrators on contract less than nine months, regardless of hours worked per week.
Full-time residents or interns in the College of Osteopathic Medicine on presidential contract for not less than 40 hours per week, with an employment period of eleven or twelve months.
Administrators who have retired from PERS or another Ohio state retirement system and are employed for a specified period (less than one year) on a part-time or intermittent basis.
The determination of eligibility for benefits is provided in the following summary and further clarified in the narrative on each benefit plan. Eligibility is defined by group classification, unless otherwise noted.

EXPLANATION OF BENEFIT ELIGIBILITY:
Administrators on eleven and twelve month contracts are eligible for vacation accrual, regardless of the number of hours each week an employee works. A "vacation day" will be identical in length to the employee's regular working day; for example, two vacation days are accrued each month for eleven months by full-time administrators who work at least 40 hours per week. (There is no accrual during June.) An employee who works eleven months for 40 hours per week would accrue two days per month for ten months, or twenty days per year. A part-time employee who works four hours per day, or twenty hours per week, on a 11 or 12 month contract, would accrue 20 or 22 half days of vacation, or a total of ten or eleven full days of vacation each year.
ADMINISTRATORS WORKING ON CONTRACTS FOR FEWER THAN ELEVEN MONTHS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR VACATION ACCRUAL.
B. MAJOR MEDICAL, EYE CARE AND LIFE INSURANCE:
Administrators in Groups I, II, and IV are eligible for participation in the major medical, eye care and life insurance programs. Group V retirees are eligible for Life Insurance only. Detailed information of these programs is available in University Personnel Services.
C. TAX DEFERRED ANNUITIES:
All groups of administrators are eligible for participation in the tax deferred annuity program, but participation is optional. Any questions and a list of authorized companies should be referred to University Personnel Services.
D. EMPLOYEE EDUCATIONAL BENEFIT PROGRAM:
Group I administrators are eligible for educational benefits equivalent to 100% of the instructional fee (general fee paid by eligible employees). Group II are eligible for the benefit prorated according to FTE. Please refer to Policy and Procedure #40.015 for specific details.
E. CHILDREN'S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:
Children of Group IA administrators are eligible for education benefits equivalent to 100% of the instructional fee (general fee paid by eligible child). Please refer to Policy and Procedure #40.015 for specific details.
Children of Group IIA administrators are eligible for educational benefits on a prorated basis. The benefit is prorated according to the FTE of the administrator during the contract period. For example, the child of an individual who works 20 hours per week, or half time, over a twelve month contract would receive benefits equivalent to 50% of the instructional fee (50% of 100% benefit equals 50%).
F. TRAVEL ACCIDENT INSURANCE:
All groups of administrators are covered by the travel accident insurance policy of the University. This policy covers loss of life and permanent total disability and applies to all administrative contract employees while traveling outside of the city of employment for official University business or enroute to University approved professional activities, such as conventions and meetings.
All groups of administrators are eligible for retirement benefits. Refer to Policy and Procedure #41.104 for membership requirements. Group V administrators must complete PERS form SR-6 upon reemployment.
H. LONG TERM DISABILITY:
All groups of administrators, except Group III and V, are eligible for long term disability benefits.
I. UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION:
All groups of administrators are eligible for such benefits if the eligibility requirements of the Unemployment Compensation Law are met.
J. WORKER'S COMPENSATION:
All groups of administrators are covered by Worker's Compensation. Refer to Policy and Procedure #41.104.
K. OBSERVANCE OF STATE AND NATIONAL HOLIDAYS:
If a state or national holiday falls within a regularly scheduled period of employment, all groups of administrators are eligible to participate in the holiday benefit program according to the provisions of Policy and Procedure #41.125, based upon the regular daily work schedule.
L. SICK LEAVE:
Group I and IV administrators are eligible for full sick leave accrual according to Policy and Procedure #40.029. Group II, III and V administrators are eligible for sick leave accrual on a pro rata basis according to FTE. The method of determining accrual days will be according to the number of months for which a contract is written, and the number of hours per week based upon the 40 hour work week. (For example, an employee on a nine-month contract for 20 hours per week would earn 5.6 days of sick leave per year.) A "sick leave day" will be identical in length to the employee's regular working day.
