LEAD OHIO [Leadership, Empowerment, Activism, & Diversity] seeks to further Ohio University’s central purpose of supporting the intellectual and personal development of its students through scholarship, service, and leadership. Part recruitment and part retention initiative, LEAD OHIO is designed to recruit, develop, and retain admitted students from underrepresented backgrounds, including students from the Appalachian region and first generation college students.
LEAD OHIO...
• Is a first-year program, open to all majors, designed to accelerate and enhance the undergraduate experience.
• Is a year-long learning community consisting of 16-18 total credit hours.
• Is rooted in service learning, leadership development, and critical, committed scholarship.
• Is an excellent resume and portfolio builder!
• Seeks to develop collaborative partnerships with businesses, non-profits, and OHIO alumni throughout the state.
• Is a recruiting and retention initiative targeting admitted students from underrepresented backgrounds, including students from the Appalachian region and first generation college students.
• Is dedicated to raising awareness concerning various social and cultural issues in the Appalachian region.

The project is a cross-campus, collaborative effort bridging existing services, colleges, and offices including Undergraduate Admissions, The Amanda J. Cunningham Leadership Center, University College, College of Arts & Sciences, Office of Multicultural Student Access and Retention, Learning Community Programs, and Student & Community Engagement.
Enrollment is limited to 40 students.
